Environmental, Energy Efficiency & Alarm Testing

Intruder Alarm Systems

AS/NZS 2201

Austest works with Alarm providers to achieve audit and verification of network tests called up within AS/NZS 2201.5 for Alarm transmission systems and AS/NZS 2201 for Intruder Alarm systems.

Car Alarm Testing

Austest performs testing to AS/NZS4601 and AS/NZS 3749 for vehicle car alarms to assist importers and manufacturers to comply with Star rating schemes in Australia and New Zealand. Portions of this testing require temperature and humidity testing and cycling which can be performed in either our Sydney, Melbourne or Auckland labs.

Environmental

Austest provides various types of environmental testing covering energy efficiency, temperature cycling, vibration and shock, Salt Spray, humidity testing and IP testing for the prevention of water and dust to AS/NZS 60529 and the European and International equivalents.

IP (Ingress Protection) numerals explained in basic terms, please refer to the standard for specifics:

IP First Numeral - Protection from solid objects/dust, IP

IP0X No protection
IP1X Protection against solid objects > 50 mm
IP2X Protection against solid objects > 12 mm
IP3X Protection against solid objects > 2.5 mm
IP4X Protection against solid objects > 1 mm
IP5X Protection against dust (limited ingress allowed, no harmful deposit).
IP6X Fully protected from dust (dust tight).

IP Second numeral - Protection from moisture/liquids

IPX0 No protection.
IPX1 Protection from vertically dripping water
IPX2 Protection from sprays/dripping of water up to 15o from vertical.
IPX3 Protection from spraying water up to 60o from vertical.
IPX4 Protection from spraying water (all directions) - limited ingress OK provided no hazard.
IPX5 Protection from low pressure jets of water (all directions) - limited ingress OK provided no hazard.
IPX6 Protection against powerful jets of water, limited ingress OK provided no hazard
IPX7 Protection from temporary immersion
IPX8 Protection from continuous immersion

Salt Spray for corrosion testing is performed in our AS/IEC/EN 60068.2.52 accredited chamber. The chamber can fit products up to 1m(d) x 2m(w) x .9m(h) continuous or periodic cycling salt mist with temp range 35-55oC

Vibration and shock testing is performed from 4Hz to 3KHz covering sine, random, sine on random, random on sine, shock and SRTD from small components to 19″ rack based products in conformance to IEC/EN61373:2010 and MIL-STD-810 for the Railway, Automotive and Military Industries.

Minimum energy performance standards have now been implemented for a range of products including;

digital television set-top boxes t0 AS/NZS 62087.2.1

MEPS television sets to AS/NZS 62087.2.2

Measurement of standby power on household electrical appliances to AS/NZS 62301

Swimming Pool Pumps to AS5102..1:2009

VEET Testing to Victorian State Government requirements for power boards and EPODS

Austest performs testing to satisfy the requirements of the Australian Government's Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts Energy Efficiency legislation.
