About Us

AUSTEST LABORATORIES is an INDEPENDENT, privately owned Australian testing and certification company assisting manufacturers, importers and exporters in gaining access to local and international markets.

Austest was formed in 1991 and has grown to become the most comprehensive compliance test facility in Australia, giving a truly "ONE STOP SHOP" to clients requiring testing and certification to Electrical Safety, Energy, EMC, Telecommunications and Wireless standards.

Austest was originally formed to cater to AUSTEL (telecommunications) based customers requiring NATA conformance test reports to aid permit applications for AUSTEL approval.

Austest has since diversified its scope to include telecommunications related standards for many countries, comprehensive EMC testing including modification and engineering services, Energy, Safety and Environmental testing.

Austest became part of the Approval Specialists group in May 2008 which brings together testing and certification facilities in Sydney, the NSW Central Coast, Melbourne (formerly Comlabs) and Adelaide. Austest works closely with other Approval Specialists companies to provide a complete certification service with additional facilities in Auckland NZ (Harvest Laboratories) and offices and agents in many Asian and Latin-South American countries.

As a member of the internationally recognised CB Scheme for safety testing, Austest can produce CB Reports for a range of electrical products. We have teamed with TUV Rheinland of Japan to provide CB Certificates, which in turn opens up a range of markets for your products.

Our Sydney and Melbourne safety and telecommunications facilities and ACMA (Australian Communications and Media Authority) recognised testing authorities and along with our New South Wales EMC facilities are A2LA (the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation) accredited for a vast range of standards. Austest has chosen A2LA as our accreditation provider, giving our customers the widest possible global acceptance of accredited reports. A2LA has accredited more than 2000 organisations and is a signatory to several multilateral mutual recognition arrangements including the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), the Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (APLAC), and the InterAmerican Accreditation Cooperation (IAAC). A2LA and NATA (National Association of Testing Authorities) are both signatories to the ILAC and APLAC MRA’s for mutual acceptance of test data and reports.

Apart from our comprehensive safety testing in Sydney and Melbourne on information technology equipment, audio & visual equipment, power transformers, lighting products, various kitchen products including refrigerating appliances, heaters, fans, etc, Austest operates two EMC test facilities for C-Tick and international EMC and Wireless requirements.

Our main EMC facility is located at Yarramalong, in beautiful countryside on the Central Coast of N.S.W, less than an hour from Hornsby. Our second laboratory is located in Adelaide with an OATS located a short drive away in the scenic Adelaide Hills.

We can perform accredited testing to most Australian and European emissions standards. Both facilities are listed with the FCC for part 15 and 18 testing. Additionally, our facilities can perform testing for harmonics and flicker and most harmonized European immunity standards. We are also a VCCI registered test site, performing emissions testing for products destined for the Japanese market.

Austest's EMC staff has many years experience in RF engineering and are well placed to quickly troubleshoot non-compliant products.

Working in harmony with the Electrical Safety and EMC divisions, our telecommunications labs and staff have over 20 years experience in the design, test and certification of telecommunications devices. Our scope covers PSTN connected devices such as phones and fax machines, thru to broadband cable and ADSL/SHDSL/VDSL devices and ISDN basic and primary rate.
